The jazz-trio formation without harmonic instrument is fascinating. From the point of view of the saxophone, it allows a much more direct and raw relationship with the subject that it’s being played and generates a sensation of vertigo similar to that which the tightrope walker might feel without a net. It is as if the absence of the piano or the guitar leaves a huge space to fill and that space could generate an intrigue, an ambiguity, which would otherwise be more difficult to reach. To make an analogy, it would be as if the painter of paintings were suddenly challenged to paint a mural: the frame is enlarged, the motifs that worked in the painting are now too small and it is not enough to enlarge them, you have to think about something else. The same thing happens with the trio: it is another dimension

The music on this album captured that rare alchemy that occurs when there is empathy between three musicians who play together for the first time. The attention is focused on what is done, one hundred percent; each note is vital. And this is reflected in the music, because as a listener one has the impression that the musicians are shaping the form of the musical pieces —almost as if it were a sculpture— always by the three together. The contribution of each one exerts a heterogeneous force that, when in contact with that of the others, is transformed into a homogeneous energy impossible to separate and with the same direction.
